📣 I'm moving the FediTips account to another server.

I'm just about to start the automatic migration procedure, so it should move your follow over to the new account seamlessly, but if you want to follow the new account manually straight away you can do so (it won't mess anything up).

User-level domain blocks don't really work that well, it is essentially closing your eyes while Threads is posting all around you on your server.

People who belong to vulnerable groups are especially not well served by relying on user-level blocks.

Considering Meta's awful human rights record, would strongly recommend asking your server admin to defederate Threads at a server level. That's the only real way to keep their toxicity out of your community.

The main FediPact list is at https://fedipact.online/ but unfortunately it's not organised into any kind of categories. There are public instances and single user instances mixed together in a big list.

(Hopefully something better will appear soon, just working on something at moment but can't promise anything yet.)

There's nothing in the Masto admin interface for this, at least.

Sort of, but it won't be as effective as a server defederation.

Users blocking a server basically just hides stuff from that server, and removes any follows you have from that server. It's more like closing your eyes to them than actually restricting them.

You can do a "domain block" by clicking on the profile of a person from that server, then clicking ︙ on their profile, and then "block domain".

In case you missed it, all links on Mastodon count as 23 characters towards your limit, no matter how many characters the link really is.

So, you don't need to use link shorteners on Mastodon as they won't actually affect the link's length.

Mastodon does this because it's better for everyone's privacy to avoid link shortener services, it means people can see what they're clicking on, and the link won't stop working if the shortener service shuts down.

If you're on Mastodon, you can contact the admin who runs your instance by clicking on "About this server" in the bottom left corner.

The section marked "Administered by" should include contact details for your instance admin.

Bear in mind, because Mastodon is federated, the admin only has control over their own instance. What happens on other instances is beyond their control, though they can block connections with specific instances if necessary.

If you see a post that breaks the rules on your instance (such as spam, hate speech, doxxing etc), you can report it by clicking "..." below the message. This message goes to your own instance admin, who can block the account.

Optionally, you can also anonymously report it to the instance of the account that posted it. Just click on the toggle switch to do this.

This means the rule breaker's own instance admin can potentially close the account completely.
